The Interesting Life of Carmen Casas Godessart (1921 - 2013)

In short, this Pub will cover the life story of Carmen Casas Godessart, a woman who lived before, during, and after the violent years of the Spanish Civil War. The various events that Carmen lived through are displayed in an interactive timeline. As a side note, all of the information used in this timeline is based on what she said during her testimony in 2009, so there were no outside sources used to obtain any information at all. Without further ado, feel free to explore the specific dates in any order you wish, there is no need to go in chronological order, despite this being a timeline.

  1. What topic(s), event(s), and/or theme(s) does this project explore? Are these topic(s), event(s), and/or theme(s) explored successfully from a historical perspective? From a creative perspective? Explain.

The timeline covers the life of Carmen Casas Godessart, who experienced both the Spanish Civil War and the subsequent Franco dictatorship. Carmen is notable for her allegiance to Communism, displaying this during World War 2 by traveling back to Spain to assist in reorganizing the communist party. The timeline is strictly a biography, but through Carmen Casas Godessart’s life, we can see what it was like for a communist woman living during this era of Spain.

  2. How is the testimony used or featured? Do you think this treatment is successful? Why or why not?

The choice of using a timeline for a biography is a good idea. It gives the reader a better context of where notable events are happening during her life and can provide pictures to better understand these events. I feel if this project had been done in any other way it would have not been as successful, as a timeline keeps people’s attention far more when it comes to biography as it is more interactive.

  3. How does the format of the project advance and/or hinder the author's interpretation? Explain.

As you have decided to approach this project as a biography, using a timeline was the best way to do this project.

  4. Do you have additional comments and/or recommendations for the author?

Overall, you have done a good job so far at constructing this timeline on the life of Carmen Casas Godessart. I like the level of detail you have given all the events of her life and had not left out any important parts of her life. My only critique of your project would be your writing in some areas. I think you would benefit from going back and checking your grammar in some parts to make it flow better. For one example on the slide called, Leaving Aragon for the Second Time, instead of saying, “Along the way she pasted through many towns…,” say, Along the way, she passed through many towns…” Other than that, your project is looking very good so far.

I appreciate the feedback! I just spent some time going through each individual slide and fixed all the grammar errors and issues.
